Yoga & Its Benefits

Yoga is the union of the mind, body and the consciousness. Yoga is an ancient practise that was originated in India. It is practiced for different types of reasons such as weight loss, peace, relieving oneself of anxiety and other physical and mental imbalances. Yoga helps to bring out the inner strength, flexibility and calmness in an individual. Yoga includes asanas, pranayama and chanting.

There are four paths of yoga- Karma yoga (yoga of action), Raja yoga (the science of physical and mental control), Bhakti yoga (the path of devotion or divine love) and Jnana yoga (the yoga of knowledge and wisdom). Yoga helps to develop the mental, physical and spiritual growth. There are 5 crucial points of yoga taught by Swami Vishnudevananda. These are Proper Exercise (asanas), Proper Breathing (pranayama), Proper Sleeping (savasana), Proper Diet (vegetarian), Positive thinking (meditation).
